Have you ever noticed that Mark’s Gospel devotes half its time (chapters 1-8) to the first three years of Jesus’ ministry and half (chapters 9-16) to the last week of his life? It’s as though his Gospel hits the brakes and slows way down. It tells us that this is the most important week in the life of the most important man who ever lived.
As we anticipate celebrating his resurrection this Sunday, I want to invite you to consider the last week of our Savior’s life through a series of posts. Jesus set his face towards Jerusalem, knowing exactly what awaited him: a slow, painful death as our substitute. If you or I knew crucifixion was awaiting us this Friday, we would be hard pressed to keep ourselves together. Yet in the shadow of the cross, Jesus continued his mission with steel resolve. Let us consider it and be moved to worship!
