From Jeremiah Kumpf: RUF is a Christian college ministry that runs through the Presbyterian Church of America. RUF stands for Reformed University Fellowship and they are at over 150 campuses nationwide. The mission statement of RUF is to reach students for Christ and equip them to serve. They try to be a place where students can gather in a community and where they can rest in the Lord.
I began going to RUF the Fall of my freshmen year at the University of North Florida. When I began, I was searching for Christian ministry where I could serve, grow and have friends who were like family. I found this the first time I attended. I was greeted by upperclassmen that sincerely cared about who I was. What stood out about RUF compared to other campus ministries at UNF was our conversations circled around topics like how to be a Christian in today’s world, science and God, not just whether the Jaguars won on Sunday or not. The people of RUF have been like family to me. We cook together, we hang out together, we talk together, we do life together, we study theology together, we pray together, we hold each other accountable together. The community and fellowship I experienced through RUF directly reflects Acts 2:42-47:
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had a need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favored with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Simply put, RUF is group of Christians in college seeking how to deal with the trials life while at college. They are a spiritual family that coexists with the larger body of Christ. RUF is not a Church, but it is a place where students can come with questions, fears, or burdens and be pointed to the gospel of Jesus Christ for answers, comfort, and to receive forgiveness.
