What is preaching? I’ve asked this question many times over the years and have heard answers coming at it from all different directions. One answer that has stuck with me is from John Piper. He writes,
“Preaching is not conversation. Preaching is not discussion. Preaching is not casual talk about religious things. Preaching is not simply teaching. Preaching is the heralding of a message permeated by the sense of God’s greatness and majesty and holiness. The topic can be any thing under the sun, but it is always brought into the blazing light of God’s greatness and majesty in his word.”
May the Lord show forth his greatness and glory as his Word is proclaimed, believed upon and obeyed!
